Psalm 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
The human body, soul and spirit is fearfully and wonderfully made. Each one of us is a design of the Creator. My focus is primarily on helping our physical body. However, to best help the body more than the body must be considered. Our soul determines how each one us will take care of our body. The soul is our mind, will, and emotions. When the soul part of our being is aligned towards life and towards God’s spirit, decisions can be made which will tremendously help the body. When the right decisions are made at the right time our body has an incredible ability to heal itself, live and thrive within the framework of being “fearfully” and “wonderfully” made. The primary purpose of this writing is to help our soul make the right decisions at the right times for our body.
Our body has the capacity and ability to live a very long time with vibrant health when the ways of life are followed.
The ways of life are the things one can do to extend both longevity and quality of life. When the ways of life are embraced and followed more life comes to our body and to our soul. The extend of how much more life and increased quality of life will be realized depends on how quickly one follows the ways of life. Also, the current condition of the person is important. If one is young and in good physical condition, the ways of life will provide more overall good. However, even if one is slipping off their table of life, often they can save their life and live many more years and even many more decades if the ways of life are aggressively embraced and followed in priority.
To live its potential the body needs cooperation from the rest of our being, that is our spirit, mind, will, and emotions. This article provides a list of powerful things you can do for your body to improve both your longevity and the quality of your life. If you pursue the ways of life as God leads, it is very likely that you may gain a lot more life. This can be true for what appears to now be impossible situations. This is because of how marvelous our body really is. Significantly longer life can be realized when the right things are done for the body. A significantly higher quality of life can be realized when the right things are done for the body. It is important that the ways of life be followed in the priority that each person needs for their best good. God can provide that sequence. He will do just that if we are humble enough to ask Him and to obey what He shows us to do.
This writing paints an impressionistic painting of what is needful to treat the body well. An impressionistic picture does not attempt to show exact detail. An impressionistic picture shows an overall view that is portrayed at a glance into the mind and emotions of the viewer. This writing does not paint a detailed picture of each way of life. Instead, it paints an impressionistic picture of the ways of life with 80 broad strokes (ways of life). It is written to show an overall picture of what one can do to take very good care of the most prized possession any of us will ever own, that is our body. It is meant to help any to extend their life. It is meant to help any to improve the quality of their life here on Earth.
The picture painted here is not complete. It certainly is not complete in detail. But overall it is a good picture of what one can do to lengthen their life. I don’t expect any to be able to embrace this complete picture without time, effort, discipline, struggle, repentance and help from God. All these make the journey of life quite challenging as well as exciting.
Often, improving in one or two areas can significantly help your longevity. It is not needful to embrace the entire picture at once to start obtaining better health and life. Actually, it is quite impossible to embrace the entire picture quickly unless you have been living the ways of life most of your life. Very, very few do. The few who do live by most of these ways of life are in excellent health and live for a very long time. Such people do exist. But the world is not aware of these. They are hidden.
Not too many years ago (2011), I was on the edge of my table of life. If I had not changed my lifestyle, I would not have been around to write about the “The Ways of Life” today. Fortunately I am still around and YES, I did change how I thought about life and what I did and what I did not do on a daily basis. I am still in that change mode. Someday, I would like everything to be so much a habit that I no longer need to expend the effort to stay alive or to maintain better health. Someday that will be the case. But for now I still have challenges that have to be addressed every day. This is the case because I got to close to the edge of my table of life and almost fell off. When you flirt with death, you have to be careful what you do and what you don’t do just to get away from that dangerous edge. The edge is where one falls off into the next life. All will eventually come to the edge of their table of life and fall off. The hope is to face this reality only after you have experienced the full life that your body is capable of living.
Below are ways of life that I have discovered over the last 7 years. 7 years ago I made 2 changes at one time. Quickly adopting these lifestyle changes was important to help me stay alive at that time. My life has been extended at least 5 years by following 2 of these ways of life. 5 years of extra life is very precious to me. I am hopeful now to live many more decades. I know that is quiet possible as I now understand a good number of the ways of life. That knowing allows me to adopt priority ways of life which extends my life and will also extend your life.
The best way to use the following list is to carefully read through each of the below ways of life. As you read, ask God if He wishes for you to embrace any of the ways of life listed. Whatever He shows you to do or not to do will be the best for your longevity. Even though you may need to implement a lot of these ways of life to obtain your full life’s potential, realize that the Heavenly Father knows our weaknesses. Most likely He will show you one thing at a time, maybe 2 at a time, that needs to be addressed. Even small changes in life style that are the priority at the time can result in tremendous positive changes in your health. Whatever the Holy Spirit of God places upon your heart to do, this is where to begin. Be determined to follow what He is showing you to do. Repent of going your own ways and embrace the ways He is showing you to go. Doing so will provide both physical and spiritual life.
If you are in bad shape and about to fall off the edge of your table of life, most likely you will need to make some immediate, priority changes just to stick around. This is where I was 7 years ago. It may be too late for you. I can not judge that. That is left to God and the Lord Jesus Christ. If they are showing you to follow one or more of the below ways of life, this is what you need to do regardless of the outcome. Following their leadership is an act of faith. Faith pleases God and can very well change how much time you are allowed to have.
Below are the Ways of Life that may help you find a lot more life and to flourish! These ways of life are not in any order of importance. What is most important to you at any given time is what God wants you to do at that time. Follow His leading. This is always the best path.
Welcome to the path of the ways of life! It is exciting path which will serve any well that embraces and follows it as God leads.
Mental Aspects of Longevity:
In many of these cases the person was indeed healthy and living a healthy lifestyle. But lifestyle is more than diet and exercise. It is also the mental and the spiritual. How you think, especially about life, is critical towards living a long and healthy life. Below are some of the ways of life related to our mental self. How you think is very important in determining your longevity.
- I desire to live.
- I choose life.
- I know there is a strong connection between how I think about life and how long I will live.

Having good relationships is important to be motivated to live. Being highly motivated to live gives one the reason and the impetus to do what is needful to extend life. Having good relationships begins with God and family. It begins with honoring your father and mother. Having good relationships means that there are certain things you do for others. Having good relationships also means that there are certain things you do not do to others. If you live a life of love, then love will be built within your life. Love is much more important than physical life. It will last forever. Our bodies are just a temporal shell that will pass so quickly compared to the eternity of true love. James 4:14 tells us that our life is like a vapor that appears for a little time and this vanishes. Since our physical life is so temporal, it is best to embrace the love of God, the love of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of family, and the love of true Christian brethren. Such love will serve us well not only in this life but also in the life to come.
12. Find love. The source of all love is God.
I lost my first spouse in 2007. Yet, I never lost the true love we shared. At first I was devastated by the loss. Then I began to realize that the love we had for each other could never be destroyed. I lost my spouse physically. But the love we shared for 33 years is still there. I am quite certain that love is eternal. Yes, the physical will eventually fail each one of us. But the true love you have in your life towards God and towards others will always be there.
Several years ago, I had several “friends” that I was investing way too much time and other resources into their lives that said or did things that often hurt me. The best course of action for me then was just to cold turkey drop those “friends.” This has saved me a world of hurt avoidance in the last few years. It is not always so easy or the right thing to get away from a spouse or family members. But if you can get away from hurtful people because they are only on your “friend” list, do so as quickly as you can.
You will be much happier and in a much better mental state for a happier, longer life by graciously accepting the body that God has provided. Suggested Prayer: “Heavenly Father, please forgive me for finding fault with the body and life you have given. Please help me to best accept Your design for my body and life. I do thank you for the body that you have provided. Please help me to take very good care of it. I ask for Your forgiveness and help in Jesus Christ’s name. Loose.”
His order of leadership conviction upon our lives is perfect. It is wise to cooperate with the conviction of the Holy Spirit by embracing and following what is being shown. When we follow what God wants us to do versus what we want to do, that is repentance. It is also faith because such is initiated by God. Faith pleases God and unleashes His favor upon you and your life. This is a very good place to be!
The following prayer may be of help to you: “Heavenly Father, I humbly ask You for wisdom on how to better take care of the wonderful body you have given me. I ask You to forgive me for not taking better care of the body of (Put your full name here). I ask You to forgive me for all the times you have shown me what to do to better take care of this body and I did not obey. I am determined to obey you. I humbly ask for Your wisdom and forgiveness in Jesus Christ’s name.”
Diet is more than the foods you eat and the liquids you drink. It is when you eat and drink. It is when you don’t eat and drink. It is how much you eat. It is how you chew and swallow. It is what foods you combine with others foods when you eat or drink.
Jesus told us that the meek will inherit the Earth. I had rather live and be part of the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Heaven, than have the glory of men/women for a moment. The Kingdom of Heaven lasts an eternity. The glory of man is way, way too short to be worth going down that path.
This book does not cover all the ways of life. I am sure that I have missed some of the ways of life. Some of them may be significant for your situation. When I was editing, every day I was reminded of a way of life that I had missed. So the list continued to grow during the editing period of this writing. I am sure that not all the ways of life are listed here. However, I think you will find what is presented here is fairly comprehensive overall.
