What Do you See? What is on Your Mind?

Do you see good or evil

When you encounter a situation, what do you see? Do you see the glass half empty or the glass half full? How you perceive a matter may effect the way you respond to it. What is the proper response? I am not going to tell you the answer, because I do not know for you. I only know what I am learning — albeit very slowly.

What we see is not the entirety of a matter. We can only see from our limited perspective. We cannot know another’s heart in the matter; we don’t even know our own most of the time.

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Jeremiah 17:9

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Psalm 51:10

We need to seek Him in all matters that confront us, moment by moment asking Him to see things the way He sees and respond in the way He would have us to respond.  His ways are above our ways; and, they are way better!
Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
Isaiah 55:6
There is a lot of division and unrest in our society.  There are lots of ways to divide people.  I have friends who are pessimists and see calamity at every turn and others who see great opportunity in every tragedy.  Which is right?  You might say that both are because a watchman is called to warn people so that they might see in time to change direction; while we are all called to encourage one another even in the midst of the calamity.  We certainly live in a time where we need to both warn and encourage one another.  It works best when we have a word in season for one another – certainly His ways are above ours and if we are seeking Him and following His word – we may yet live to see His resolution to the matter.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
II Timothy 2:15
It is, of course, very important what we dwell on.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8
Here is a powerful message on the importance of our thoughts.  We are challenged to think on good things for a reason!  Don’t miss this most excellent video on the amazing power of your mind (about 10 mins in length) with over 3 million views at time of posting.

The Secret to Success? Set your Mind on Good Things

Hat Tip to Bryan and Josh for sharing this video on the forums.  It is old and has been shared by many over time, but it seems very timely to me.  I hope it is what you need when you need it!  I suppose just like anything you could misinterpret the goal being the end unto itself, but I’d like to point you to the scriptural basis for this right off the bat.  Look at Jesus words to us in scripture and get rid of some stinkin’ thinkin’ while you decide on what your goals are.  Then work to eliminate fear and doubt from your daily regimen.  We become what we think about. See Phillipians 4:8 and one of my dad’s favorite scriptures:

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Happy listening and if you are willing, share your story with me in the comments section.  I’d love to hear about your goals and pray with you about thinking on good things!  (note:  this is audio only with a static picture)
