Survival and Preparedness on a Practical Level — Setting Priorities for You and Your Family

I am preparing to do a series of posts on survival and preparedness tips. In getting ready to do that series, I asked a couple of friends what the order of priorities should be on these posts. We differ a bit on that and I wanted to ask you to make your own list and discuss with your own family and set your own priorities for the days ahead. What you believe will in fact change how you live!

One of the most important events in my spiritual growth was my awakening about the Sabbath. If you work to order your week so that you can rest on the Sabbath, I maintain that you will come closer to being where you should be when you should be there. Have you ever seen an accident on the highway and been aware that had your timing changed just a little that could have been you? I believe that our heavenly Father cares about the details in our lives; I also believe that He is most fully aware of our difficulty in hearing clearly amidst the noise of life! Nevertheless, the still small voice keeps breaking through especially as we listen carefully, stay in the word, and practice doing things the way He says to.

Here is Clint’s list of priorities:

  1. Spiritual
  2. Location
  3. Shelter
  4. Water
  5. Food
  6. Sanitation
  7. Protection
  8. Clothing and Footwear
  9. Medical and Dental
  10. Storage
  11. Distribution
  12. Others
  13. Mindset
  14. Procurement
  15. Health
  16. Energy

[Clint’s comment on priorities:  All of these categories are important.  For now I would say that the spiritual and location are the most important.  If one does not have the help of the Lord Jesus, then most likely they will not survive what is soon coming.  If they are not in the location he leads them to before certain events occur, most likely they will not survive.  See previous posts here on this website for more from Clint Young.]

Here is my list of priorities:

  1. Spiritual
  2. Trumpet – warning to others
  3. Community – network
  4. Energy (personal)
  5. Health
  6. Location – suggest multiple
  7. Shelter
  8. Water
  9. Food
  10. Sanitation
  11. Protection and Security measures
  12. Clothing and Footwear
  13. Medical and Dental
  14. Backup Electrical / Utilities
  15. Procurement and Barter Mechanisms (secondary ways to generate income)
  16. Storage
  17. Mindset – actually this one is tied to #1 and is ongoing and impacts all levels

My parents lived through the depression and taught me the value of saving and practical methods for multiplying income.  The Lord taught me early in my corporate career to get out of debt and live beneath my income rather than beyond it.  It may not have been enough but I tried to do that.  My parents were also givers of time and money.  I have tried to emulate that as well.  Much of my time has been given to politics of late and I have done what I could to wake up America.  Now we seem to be gaining on that front, but not fast enough to escape the judgement of the Lord for the wickedness afoot in the land.  I still hope and pray that we will wake up in time and turn from our wicked ways so that our heavenly Father may be pleased to hear our prayer and heal our land.  In the meantime, I believe we should prepare for some really difficult times because of our really lousy choices as a nation.  To that end, I will be sharing some practical tips here on this website.

I must tell you though that my situation is different from yours.  Noone can hear the Lord for another.  That requires a personal relationship.  May I encourage you that your first priority be to know Him and hear from Him and walk in His way.  I encourage you to be a student of His word and when you lack wisdom to ask.  He wants to be your Lord and walk with you and be your strong right hand in whatever lies ahead for you and your family.  You can trust Him because He is trustworthy!

Please make your list and have important conversations with your family and friends about the days ahead and how we can help one another and be the body of Christ in a hurting world.  Whatever you do, do not take the mark of the beast in your hand or forehead!  Enough said on that?!

What are your priorities?  Please pray and seek the Lord while He may be found!

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Philippians 4:8  (KJV)
