OKGOP Moves Back to Phone Booth for Meetings

FGST - Finding Gems & Sharing Them
Several years ago when I moved to Oklahoma (2005), I continued my political registration as Republican. I even worked very hard to network and build the party with grassroots efforts supporting conservative, constitutional, pro-life, liberty loving folks. Silly me, I thought we were saying the same things. Long story short, many of us worked hard to build the party around issues and candidates espousing those issues.

In 2008 we grew, and in 2012 many actually believe we had a winning number, but were cheated out of the convention. In 2015 we elected one of us as chair of the party, Randy Brogdon. He was in the process of restoring the financial footing of a floundering party and in the process of moving forward when some in the GOP made his personal life miserable to the point that he resigned for the sake of his family. We witnessed the politics of destruction. I believe that is when the Republican party in Oklahoma actually died. It took another year or so for the mask to actually come off.

We can disagree and have debates; then we count votes to determine who wins and who loses. However, when we destroy our own members, the body will eventually die. When we shut out people we disagree with and refuse to have the conversations to discuss the differences, when we only post favorable comments on social media in party groups, when we refuse to live by our own rules and give a pass and $$$ to elected officials who violate our own platform, the end is near.

I would note that attendance continues to decline even though it is a presidential year. Then when discussion moved to issues this weekend, the mask really came off notably on right to bear arms and pro-life facade for party. Many will be moving to Independent status or other parties. Most will stop giving funds to the GOP and giving directly to more trustworthy candidates and grassroots efforts.

I will be writing more on the topic of political parties and why our founding fathers did not recommend them (hopefully soon).  In the meantime here is a post I did on topic recently —  As Political Alignments Shift.  And further back, I suggested that maybe we should get back to this — Do Justice, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly.  The fault does not lie with only one side.  It is about how we treat one another as we go.

See OKGOP Quick Wrap Up via Sooner Politics.org – Editorial for David Van Risseghem’s thoughts on convention.
To which I added my comment here: My headline would be OKGOP moves back to the phone booth for meetings. I would note that attendance continues to decline even though it is a presidential year. Then when discussion moved to issues, the mask really comes off notably on right to bear arms and pro-life facade for party. Many will be moving to Independent status or other parties. Most will stop giving funds to the GOP and giving directly to more trustworthy candidates and grassroots efforts. In fact I think I’ll go write an article on topic now… (see article above)

First and foremost, thank you for your pledge of support for my bid to be your new Republican National Committeeman!
.
But, I need your help.  Over the last month I have been making phone calls and meeting with delegates. The calls have been extremely encouraging and I have learned a great deal about what is important to all Oklahoma Republicans.
.
That said, I need you to know that every vote counts and I need you to make the significant effort to come to the convention and vote.  Additionally, if you know any delegates in your county or across the state, please call or email them and let them know who you support for National Committeeman. Also, encourage them to attend the OKGOP State Convention this Saturday at 301 NE 27th St Moore, OK 73160. Doors will open at 7am and registration will end at 9am.
.
I am excited to say that we are only a few days away from the State Convention which will take place this upcoming Saturday May, 14. With your support, and the hundreds of delegates who have pledged their support, we can reach victory on Saturday!
.
I am incredibly thankful for all the notes of support and the encouraging messages many of you have sent.
.
I am running for this position because I believe in the Republican Party. I believe that the principles of our Party, our Republican policies, and our conservative ideals are important enough to fight for. I believe in serving you, representing you, and as always, listening to you, the grassroots of our party.
.
Thank you again for your support.
.
God Bless you,
Richard Engle

If you haven’t registered and paid your Delegate fee, you CAN still register and pay the morning of the Convention from 7:00 – 9:00 a.m. Please come early.

Sandra Crosnoe

Every vote counts and as you well know leadership matters.  I believe that Randy Brogdon will lead with a message that stands on principle and the basic tenets of our constitution.  I believe he will both grow the party and unify us by his style, his principles and his message.  He is articulate, has a strong work ethic, is a successful businessman, and above all a gracious gentleman to all he meets.  As cofounder of R3publicans, an Oklahoma precinct chair, an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention in 2012, and an Oklahoma Grassroots activist, Randy Brogdon has my whole-hearted endorsement for Oklahoma Republican Party State Chair.

Thank you for your service and your time as a delegate and an activist!

For Life and Liberty,

Sandra Crosnoe for Oklahoma R3publicans

The Results are in for Washington County Precinct Chairs — on to the County Convention

Meeting held at Elks Lodge in Bartlesville January 20th.  Several people tried to attend but were unable to find the building.  There are also some issues with how the meeting was called and if enough advance notice was given.  I have made a formal verbal (but witnessed) request to the chair for a copy of the executive committee members.  Another precinct chair has made a written request for the minutes of the executive committee meetings.  We’ll see what is produced and if it is done so timely.  It appears that Mike Dunlap plans to run for chair at the county convention.  That seems like a bit of a conflict of interest to me because he already holds an elective office.  It remains to be seen if the grassroots will permit such a thing to occur.

Anyway you may be able to add your name to the county convention list by contacting your precinct chair and letting them know of your interest so that they can turn your name in.  There is some discussion over the appropriate cutoff for that to occur, but suffice it to say if you don’t ask it sure won’t happen!

Apparently all the committees were set without input from the county committee once again, because we haven’t met in ages.  If I find out who is chairing the committees and when they are meeting I will let you know.  Right now it appears a precinct chair doesn’t need to know that information in this county.

Here are the results of the precinct officer selections from our meetings this week.

Washington County Republican Convention:

The Washington County Republican Party Convention will also be held at the Elks Lodge on February 21st with registration starting at 12 noon.

(Elks Lodge Address: 1060 Swan Drive, Bartlesville, OK 74006)  Be sure you do a practice run on finding this if you don’t know because the name isn’t on the building and the street isn’t labeled, but a longtime resident will have no problem.  I sure hope we get better at welcoming newcomers and making things easier and following the rules and keeping things grassroots not top-down.  Ah well, I can dream can’t I?!

What Does a Precinct Look Like and Do You Know Your Chair?

Full disclosure for those of you reading this who do not know me:  I am a Republican, so this is from a Republican perspective, but having said that, some things apply to both parties. Find out more if you are interested and get involved in your local community.

So here is what the Washington County Precinct Map in Oklahoma looks like:

Once you figure out your precinct, then you can find out who your precinct chair is — well you could if the party in Washington County had a website and shared that kind of information…. or if the state GOP published party officers at the precinct level.  But sadly not there either.  Here is the best I know based on the biennial meeting in 2013 and some special efforts that I went through to publish the names at the time:  Washington County Republican Precinct Leaders (2013).
