The Prayer of Jabez – old prayer / new project

Recently I discovered a bunch of cassette tapes in my closet from 1960s forward. I took on the project to digitize a few of them. This is my first success story. You can listen via these links via anything that will work with mp3 files:

Prayer of Jabez Side 1.mp3

Prayer of Jabez Side 2.mp3

The files are too big to attach so these are links to the files on one drive.  Each side is about 30 minutes long.  I thoroughly enjoyed this presentation and have listened several times in the process of digitizing the tape.  You should be able to listen on your phone without downloading but you can download the files as you wish if that works better for you.  The files should be available to share with others if you want to do that also.

This presentation was originally given at an Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) meeting around the year 2000 about the same time the book Prayer of Jabez came out from comments made.  Here is a picture of the book and author I found online.

Bruce Wilkinson is a delightful speaker and shares personal stories that make this teaching come alive – it was rich when I first heard it and richer this time as I rediscovered it.  Moreover, I have been praying it more consciously this week and praying it over others as opportunities arose for me.  I hope it is as timely for you as for me and you will let me know your thoughts.

I am also interested in better ways to share things like this with you so let me know if this method works for you.

The passage being discussed is found in I Chronicles 4:10

Two additional passages have been coming to my mind as I have pondered this verse this week.

First the parallels with the Lord’s prayer found in Matthew 6:9-13.  And the incident wherein Jacob wrestled with the angel (I believe it was Yashua) and said, “I will not let you go unless You bless me.” Genesis 32: 22-31

All that to say be fervent in asking for the Lord’s blessing and praying it over others as well!  His storehouses are never-ending and His delight in you unparalled.

Hope you enjoy!

Love,

Sandie

Recommending — The Path to Holiness by Jesse Jones

When I was growing up in Pasadena Texas, my parents met the Lord in a life changing way and were friends with the author of this book. They established a bible study for the children of the adults getting to know the Lord and studying the Word together.  We met in the ‘upper room’ at Jesse’s house and we studied so we could grow in the knowledge of Jesus and His Word.  I have a lot of love and a depth of gratitude to this author for helping guide me to the Lord at an early age.

I am so glad he has written this book. It is like none other that you have read — probably because Jesse is an engineer rather than a story teller. It is not a long book, but it is dense with scripture; some printed out for you and more references to take you as deep as you want to go with each chapter. I have suggested to Jesse that it would be perfect to provide online for small groups to use as guidance for bible studies. It is both foundational and for the believer who wants to go deeper. Isn’t the Word like that though?

I marvel that eternity may not be long enough to get to know our Creator!  It is like an expanding understanding whether you go outward or inward. Time and dimensions seem to expand and contract as needed as we move in Him. I marvel at both the complexity and the simplicity of the Gospel.

One other thing that is very special about this book is the way Jesse had it published and what he does with the proceeds.  He self published and any profits go to help a food bank in his community.  So read the book and bless your life and a local community as well.  What a roll model for us all!  Thank you Jesse for oh so many things.  May the Lord bless this effort in ways beyond your comprehension~

Here is a little more from the author and part of the back cover to the book:

“I chose this book title to reflect my understanding of what the Bible tells us about God’s plan and purpose in sending His only Son to earth in the form of a man,” Jones said. “We know that Jesus came to restore God’s chosen ones to favor through spiritual regeneration. The path He chose is marked with milestones described herein.”

Jones went on to say, “Several years ago I became aware of the fact that I did not really understand what Jesus did for me when He went to the cross and shed His blood. Questions arose in my mind about how His forgiveness could be made real to me personally. What would change within me when I actually received forgiveness, and what did Jesus expect of me thereafter? How could I become born again and, what do terms like the washing of regeneration and sanctification mean? I began looking for answers in the Bible.”

About the Author:  Jesse C. Jones retired from his position as Manager of the NASA White Sands Test Facility in December 1981, after spending 29 years as an Aerospace Engineer. After retirement He accepted a position as Instructor in the Mechanical Engineering Department, Texas Tech University (TTU), Lubbock, Texas, where he taught senior mechanical design courses and performed research. While at TTU Mr. Jones co-authored two textbooks, one of which was widely used as a senior mechanical design course textbook. Since his retirement from TTU Mr. Jones spends his time teaching Bible classes and studying and writing articles and books on biblical subjects.

If you have never worshiped the Lord in the Spirit by yourself you are missing a great blessing; if you have never been amidst many worshiping together in the Spirit you have missed a taste of heaven on earth indeed.  May you delight in Him and worship Him in Spirit and Truth.  I didn’t want this video to stop  . . .

Mel Tari: Revival and Miracles in Indonesia

youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GpNGpU2i78 – video link has been removed by youtube

Mel Tari has lived his entire life on the remote island of Timor in Indonesia. Because of his natural brilliance he was given a scholarship to study in Russia, which he refused.
Mel has now traveled around the world telling the wonders of Christ and the simplicity of the Word.

From the book “Like a Mighty Wind” (by Mel Tari and Cliff Dudley.)

[Editor’s note:  I read Mel Tari’s book many years ago and it was an amazing account of the revival in Indonesia.  It is wonderful to hear this account and know He is still faithfully serving the Lord.  My small group is studying Acts currently and it is interesting to note that Mel also found that the gifts operate ‘naturally’ as we move in ministry to accomplish His call of reaching a lost world.  Blessings Mel and enjoy the video all!  May you walk in His call and see His Hand moving in your behalf to set the captives free indeed!/sc]
