I watched this documentary, “Forks over Knives”, tonight and then discovered their website — what a find! First a little about the DVD from their own website:
“Forks Over Knives became a spark for national change. The film was a hit . The accompanying book became a New York Times No. 1 bestseller. And most importantly, Brian [Wendel] saw legions of people—including his own father and members of the film’s cast and crew—adopting a plant-based diet and regaining control of their health and their lives. It was obvious that Forks Over Knives was no longer just a side project, so Brian quit his day job in real estate and took on the movement full time.”
The “Forks over Knives” DVD parallels the discovery of two doctors, independently of one another (both by the way raised on dairy and cattle ranches), that plant based diets promote healthier outcomes. Their journeys were both clinical and via broad geographic demographic studies of disease trends over time. Embedded in the story were several real life cases where dramatic turnarounds were experienced in diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension with plant based diet lifestyle changes. Several cases went from heavily medicated to no medications, significant weight loss and accompanying life style turnarounds.
So if you become interested (and I am), the first step is to take the first step and learn to reduce meat and dairy products while eating more plant based diets. That can be a bit difficult in our culture today. That is when I discovered their website. One of the top tabs on the website is Recipes. If you are interested in making lifestyle changes, you are going to need some help to learn to buy, cook, and eat healthier foods. Junk foods just are not going to solve this problem. Just in case you hadn’t figured that out!
I am also reading Professor Arnold Ehret’s Mucusless Diet Healing System. He emphasizes fasting and plant based eating. More on that when I finish the book, but if you are interested in the topic, don’t wait on me! A friend recently told me that “it was the most important book in my library”. It was my parent’s book so I guess I better take a look…
If you are in the Bartlesville area and want to meet monthly with a group of us pursuing these topics, please let me know so I can plug you into things.
