Results are in – Bartlesville Passed all 4 Propositions, but…

All four propositions passed.  However, Proposition 2 (which included Price Tower Park and Amphitheater) passed by a much thinner margin at a little over 66%; the other propositions passed by about 79%, 83% and 81% respectively.  A voter turnout of 4,138 people made this decision for a city with a population of approximately 34,748.   Bartlesville is in a declining population mode which means fewer people will be paying into the property tax base to cover these bonds.   That is about 8% of the population voting in this special election.

Maybe we should eliminate special elections and have these matters on general election ballots so that more people would participate.  Just a thought…

For more info on what was actually on the ballot and how much money we just authorized spending – see my previous article here: https://scrosnoe.wordpress.com/2018/03/06/oklahoma-special-elections/

Only problem is it doesn’t give you the ballot wording on bonds. It does give you candidate names on the ballot in those cases. But you will still have to do your own research!  This will simply tell  you if there is an election in your area.

For my friends in Bartlesville, here is the ballot wording for all the money on the table for us in the City of Bartlesville.

In summary:

  • Proposition No 1 – City Equipment Projects – $1,995,000
  • Proposition No 2 – Parks and Recreation Facilities Projects – $8,260,000
  • Proposition No 3 – Street Projects – $5,120,000
  • Proposition No 4 – Storm Drainage Projects – $1,125,000

GRAND TOTAL (if all approved) $16,500,000

Sixteen Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars

What happens in a declining population base?  Can we really afford all this?  Will property taxes really remain the same?

I am so mad about the bundling of the much extravagant and unneeded amphitheater in proposition 2 – I may just vote no across the board.  I mean if they would do that on item 2 who knows what is buried in the other items!

My philosophy is when in doubt vote no and this time there is no doubt on Proposition 2 in my mind!

If you want more information on why to vote no on Proposition 2 visit on facebook Vote No on the Price Tower Park
