Happy Father’s Day Thoughts

Taking a little trip down memory lane, I did this post on facebook last night:

Facebook post on Father's Day June 16 2013

And then I began thinking about my Heavenly Father — you know the One Who Made us all?!

Father’s Day is not just about your earthly dad.  I am pausing to say thanks to my heavenly Father for all His tender loving care along the Way!  I am grateful especially for His patience, mercies, healing touches and gentle nudges at just the right time.  He does things in a way so that I can see and hear and understand a little more about Him each time!  The unfolding revelation and the comfort of His presence is beyond compare and an eternal promise.

I have a lot to be thankful for!

Blessings,

Sandie

Reblog – Rare Halo Photos Captured after Storm Sandy by David Hathaway NASA

Rare Photo of Ice Halos Captured in the Wake of Hurricane Sandy

blacked-out New York City wasn’t the only rare photo op that Hurricane Sandy left in her wake. NASA solar physicist David Hathaway captured the above photo in Huntsville, Alabama two days ago after seeing the strange rings surrounding the afternoon sun.

NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office head Bill Cooke says that he had, “never seen anything quite like it.” Another onlooker, Kyle Winkleman, called it a “once-in-a-decade event.”

Spaceweather writes that the extremely rare apparition was “almost certainly connected to Hurricane Sandy”:

The core of the storm swept well north of Alabama, but Sandy’s outer bands did pass over the area, leaving behind a thin haze of ice crystals in cirrus clouds. Sunlight shining through the crystals produced an unusually rich variety of ice halos.

“By my count, there are two sun dogs, a 22o halo, a parahelic circle, an upper tangent arc, and a parry arc,” says Chris Brightwell, who also photographed the display. “It was amazing.”

We shared some other photographs of “sundogs” last year. You can learn more about the phenomenon, which has the scientific name “parhelion”, over on Wikipedia.

After the “Big Bang” by Jesse C. Jones — Addendum with What to do if you have Questions, List of Figures, and Permission to Reprint (2 pages)

A personal note from Jesse and the graphic now included with the book (reprinted with permisson):

After considerable research I have finally obtained permission to use Figure 1, pg. 24, which depicts  the South American butterfly, Morpho rhetenor, (“In the beginning was information” and Scientific American, Vol. 245, Nov. 1981).  Sandra Crosnoe has suggested that I may be seeing the significance of this photo through engineer’s eyes, and I must confess there may be some truth in that observation.  However, from the time I first saw this unbelievable microstructure I was struck by the fact that no objective observer should fail to recognize that someone beyond the realm of man and nature created this wonderful masterpiece.  I hope readers of this writing will see what I saw.

Jesse asks those that read this book forward any questions and/or comments to him via email:  jessecjones [@] sbcglobal [dot] net

He will be glad to respond personally to those with questions that state they have made a contribution to the

Special thanks to Hanunyah Fish for use of the butterfly photo. Hanunyah was 13 years old when this photo was taken (in 2012). She believes it to be a Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly. [Personal note:  It has been such an honor to be a part of this project to make Jesse’s work available on Scribd for all to read and share and enjoy.  I know that his work will bless you and hopefully guide many to our Lord and into eternity.  It will give you both biblical truth and a scientific perspective. Please drop him a note and a testimony and in respect for his time if you have questions for him make a donation to the food bank as he has asked.  I love the fact that the other book he has written also helps the food bank in his local community.  He is a role model to all.  Thanks for taking time to love and mentor me through the years.  You are a blessing indeed!]

Celebrating Pi Day – March 14th

Happy Pi Day Everyone (3.14) get it?

Here is how some math classes celebrate and don’t miss the pi song — it will hang in your brain for sure!  Students participated in special PI Day activities, celebrated the day by singing PI Day songs, and (of course) the traditional  eating of the pies.  Think I’ll go have a piece of pie now just to help celebrate the day.

Pi day is celebrated in math classrooms each year on March 14th
