08/18/09 Review the Freedom 21 Conference that just took place in Oklahoma and some of the interviews that were conducted for the documentary film project mentioned last week – focus on RJ Harris and his race in Oklahoma CD04.  We continued to talk about the health care bill debate, including efforts both by elected officials and organized groups to divert the discussion by various means.

Michael Maresco’s update was postponed until next week due to a scheduling conflict this week.  He will return to give us more details about the journey and next steps for the Liberty Rider.

Chaordic Slime Mold –or– What I Love Best about the RonPaulLiberty Movement

I have been studying slime molds, the structure of AA , Chaos Theory, open source software and the structure of the world wide web itself trying to grasp the nature of the phenomenon demonstrated by the Ron Paul inspired movement. I found that the common elements of it exist universally and the principles create many of the most durable organizations. The concept is new to me but this “emergent intelligence” is as old as it gets. From single celled independent organisms to great networks of people worldwide, a common theme appears. I may have stumbled upon the term to describe the quality that makes the aesthetically unappealing example of the slime mold uniquely successful. Chaordic.

What is Chaordic organization?

Here it is in a nutshell; System of organization that exhibits characteristics of both chaos and order but is dominated by neither.

The term was coined by Dee Hock, founder and CEO of VISA USA and VISA international. He paired two seemingly polar terms, chaos and order, to describe a system that encompasses both but is dominated by neither. In his book Birth of the Chaotic Age, chaordic is defined in this manner:

1. The behavior of any self-governing organism, organization, or system which harmoniously blends characteristics of order and chaos.

2. Patterned in a way dominated by neither chaos nor order.

3. Characteristic of the fundamental organizing principles of evolution and nature

The structure as well as the nature of this movement is as fascinating as its unifying principle. The individuals that comprise the liberty movement are, by far, the most noble group of people I have ever had the pleasure of mingling with and they have earned my faith in them. Every obstacle they have encountered has been surmounted in the most reasonable, ethical manner possible proving to me that the tenants of individual freedom are truly born of the natural order of existence. What I hope to gain by studying slime molds and the emergent organizational structure of self-help groups like AA is a solid understanding of this “unstructure” so that I can better maximize our strengths and avoid the pitfalls that inevitably lead to the destruction of artificially imposed hierarchies. Natural law is simply benign justice and nothing will survive for long that tries to operate apart from that principle.

The Twelve Traditions of AA are a large part of that organizations longevity. I don’t think all of them are applicable to this movement but there are some operational tenants they espouse that are priceless.

Your Time is a Real Treasure

or Volunteering 101

It has come to my attention that there are some people and organizations trying to abuse the grassroots (i.e. middle America, the silent majority, the real people).  They are doing it in some very manipulative ways and I want to be sure that you are properly informed and warned.  We need to vet the organizations that are seeking to solicit our help.  Now as you read this you are going to think you know the organizations and the people I am referring to.  And you very well may.  But I assure you the guidelines that I am going to spell out for you make sense even if you think you know the people and know them well.  Trust is an interesting commodity.  Once lost it is difficult to regain.  So proceed with caution.  You are about to have your eyes opened wide and may well learn to vet before you trust and even then proceed with caution!

Salt and Light

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.  Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.  (Matthew 5:13-16)

You are called to be salt and light.  You are a light upon a hill.  You are a treasure in the kingdom of the Lord.  You are called with purpose.   You know this is true!  It resonates within your being.  How could it not be so?   Thus, you have a purpose and a calling and anything that takes you away from your purpose to do what someone else wants you to do – no matter how right it seems, should be evaluated in the light of your own calling.  It really needs to be a constant question of whether it is indeed something that you are called by the one who made you to go and do.

A Double Minded Man is Unstable

What does that have to do with the matter at hand?  Well this, there are lots of people and groups trying to get you to do something for them.  Does what they want have anything at all to do with your purpose and calling?  If so then proceed.  If not stop right there and learn to say NO!  Say it nicely or not now or let me think about it, but go no further until your purpose lines up with theirs!

If your calling is in one direction and you are giving your time to a group or person walking in another direction, then you are actually working against yourself and your calling to please a group or a man in conflict with your own purpose.

Do you see the instability here?  You become a person at war with your own self by virtue of bringing your time and talents under someone else’s agenda.  What if you don’t know they have a different direction and agenda than your purpose and calling?  Doesn’t make any difference in the result – only in your awareness of the result and the abuse.  They say ignorance is bliss, but I don’t find much bliss in being used and/or abused and I rather suspect that you don’t either.

Vetting Process

Thus it makes sense to spend some time investigating the people that you are connecting with and pondering giving time and money to help.  I wish this were easy and that I could make it easy for you, but it is a bit of a dance through life and you will find that no matter how good you think you are at the process, you still have something to learn.  I will say that there is some gifting of discernment and some are more gifted than others about these matters.  So if you are not so gifted, find a friend who is and prayerfully ponder how you proceed.  Here are some very concrete practical ideas, but they should be surrounded with prayer and the wise counsel that you are privy too:

1)    Know the history of the person or group.
2)    Know who is on the inner circle or advisory team for the group.
3)    Know who is on the board of directors.
4)    Know how the group is chartered (501c3, 501c4, 527, Nonprofit, Corporation, Business, Association)
5)    Know the written policy about money, lists, and information flow.  Find out if reports are filed routinely and properly if donations are collected and find out what percentage of costs are used to raise money.
6)    Find out if information flow is two-way and if you have appropriate and timely access to leadership.
7)    Find out if the goals of the group both stated and when put into action line up.
8)    Find out what people/group(s) have been endorsed or supported in the past and/or whom/what groups have been given money, assistance and list access.
9)    Find out what authority the leadership is under and if you agree with both the jurisdiction and the calling of the group. (Note: one must be under authority in order to have authority)
10)   Is the group top down or bottom up? If it is bottom up name local leaders in your area.
11)   Website(s)
12)  Contact information (national/state/local in your area)

Be a Fruit Inspector

Many people will tell you not to judge people.  Well I just say that I am a fruit inspector.  By their fruits you shall know them.

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.  Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?  Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.  (Matthew 7:15-18).

Words are cheap unless backed up by actions and repetitively as well!  You will find that good fruit is properly connected to the vine and planted in good soil and living quiet and respectable lives too.  Does the person asking for your help in politics have his or her own household in good order?  This is not rocket science, this is really practical biblical wise counsel!

A good friend of mine Shelli Dawdy (@stubborn_facts) recently wrote an article about Ducks that comes to mind here.  If it waddles, has a bill, and quacks, guess what, it’s a duck!  So determine who you are dealing with and make wise decisions up front in the relationship.

Be instant in season
(or why put off until tomorrow what you can do today!)

On the other hand, we have much work to be done to take back our country and minister to the needs of a hurting community, so don’t procrastinate!  Be instant in season and don’t put off what you can do today.  What if tomorrow never comes!  I have a little post about things that everyone can do – so if you don’t know what needs to be done, take a look at this for some ideas—–> Easy Volunteer Ideas for Everyone

Top Down vs Bottom Up

The pyramid has been inverted in our system for way too long.  The grassroots are beginning to wake up and understand that the pyramid balanced on the point is upside down and top heavy and will topple over.  Our system of a constitutional republic was structured to reserve rights (freedom and liberty) to the people with very limited government (both federal and state).

Let’s be sure that our organizations and relationships work the same way.  You simply can’t build a house from the top down.  You must lay a firm foundation.

. . . . so let the Silent Majority Speak UP

Let the people control the groups and decide who their leaders are.  Let the cream rise to the top.  The media and the power people will not move aside willingly, but they will become irrelevant as soon as you look behind the curtain and discover how few of them there are and how many of you there are.

Stop the NEW Real ID – S 1261 – The PASS Act

Dear friends and fellow Americans,

I have an EMERGENCY ACTION ALERT for you Today that requires your immediate and direct attention.

This ALERT is regarding the MORPHING of REAL ID in to the PASS ACT. The REAL ID as you may or may not know was the failed law that snuck through congress in May of 2005 that would require all Americans to Carry a standardized FEDERAL ID card with an embedded trackable chip.

NOW I need you to contact your senate committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs IMMEDIATELY to STOP THE PASS ACT – S.1261

Special interests groups are trying to force Democrats, Independents and Republicans to support this legislation. States have been and are working to ensure drivers licenses are secure documents and have document integrity. The federal government, in spite of the states, wants to set international standards that are not needed. The federal government wants control of your state drivers license. The federal government is bribing states to go along with its plans.

We spoke with Mark Lerner about the emerging PASS Act a few weeks ago.

Our freedom and our rights are not for sale!

Some governors want to take the bribe money.

The senate committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs will be considering the legislation very soon.

The PASS Act does not repeal the Real ID Act. It does repeal provisions of the Real ID Act; those provisions that are included in Title II of the Real ID Act 2005. The Real ID Act is still intact and is federal law.

The PASS Act contains many of the most egregious aspects of the Real ID Act; including the requirement for a digital facial image/photograph that will be mandated to be internationally facial recognition compatible.

There is not a federal law that prohibits the simultaneous use of CCTV/surveillance cameras and facial recognition technology in real time.

The PASS Act will do nothing to provide a higher level of National security. Under the provisions of the PASS Act the documents used to obtain a drivers license are not authenticated. These documents are called breeder documents.

Although requirements for new databases and the linking of databases are not part of the PASS Act the fact remains through aamva.net and NLETS states can still have information contained in their state Department of Motor Vehicles made available to both federal and international law enforcement agencies without a court order.

Two international agencies (AAMVA and the ICAO, an agency of the United Nations) were involved in U.S. policy and law – the Real ID Act 2005 and the newly proposed PASS Act. DHS has called AAMVA the hub and backbone of the Real ID Act. On AAMVAs own web-site it proclaims it is an international organization that serves law enforcement and motor vehicle administrators.

Both the Real ID Act and the PASS Act result in Americans being enrolled into a single global biometric identification system that links a persons body to their ability to buy and sell.
WE ARE ASKING EVERY AMERICAN TO CALL EACH OF THE SENATORS in the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committee AND SAY:

We are opposed to the Real ID Act and the PASS Act
We are opposed to being enrolled into a biometric identification system
We do not want our social security numbers in state DMV databases
We do not want RFID chips in our drivers licenses
We are opposed to the federal government intervening in the issuance of state drivers licenses

Grassroots Teaparty Efforts and You

Open Letter to all my Grassroots Friends and Activists,

My strong recommendation to all involved is to be sure that your teaparty effort stays grassroots and nonpartisan. We need to cut government and taxes big time and get back to our constitutional roots. Many would like to co-opt the movement and call it their own, but no one owns us!

I am working with a group of concerned citizens around the country and want to guide you to a couple of tiny little grassroots efforts with huge implications. Please visit Constitutional Liberty Coalition on wordpress and also on facebook to find other state leaders committed to the same goals.

We formed as a group when we saw top down techniques being used in what we thought was a collaborative effort. Then we did the research and found that globalist Newt Gingrich was being promoted as our leader and web pages directing shared lists and fundraising around his organization. We purposed to not drive traffic to the national website for that reason and will do everything in our power to keep the movement safe in local hands. But you will have to be vigilant and help. Groups are welcome to help and promote to their own lists and attend and participate. Glenn Beck is now promoting the movement as well, but he is not asking for your lists and money and is to be commended for that. We hope that continues!

Another page is on facebook in draft format if you want to create a state page separate from the list in CLC above you are invited to see Taxcut Teaparty (Draft at present) on facebook or create your own. We are happy to help any way we can and fully supportive of your efforts for the people to have a voice!

Subject: Oklahoma HJR 1003 Claiming Sovereignty under the 10th Amendment to be heard Wednesday, February 11, 2009!

The next meeting of the Rules Committee of the Oklahoma House of Representatives will be  Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at 3:00 pm in Room 412-C at the Capitol.

Among the several bills to be heard is OK Representative Charles Key’s HJR 1003, which claims state’s rights under the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

The 10th Amendment states:

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

Oklahoma HJR 1003 declares, in part:

“THAT this serve as Notice and Demand to the federal government, as our agent, to cease and desist, effective immediately, mandates that are beyond the scope of these constitutionally delegated powers. THAT all compulsory federal legislation which directs states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties or sanctions or requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding be prohibited or repealed.”Oklahoma is looked to as a leader in state’s rights and it is important that this bill pass both the House and the Senate in 2009.

Please call and email Rules Committee Chairman Representative Gus Blackwell and the other committee members to let them know you support HJR 1003 and to respectfully ask them to move this bill to the floor to be heard and considered by the whole House.House Rules Committee Contact information:
