Christianity Today: Interview with Ron Paul on Hot Topics facing Christians and Moral Values

Q & A: Ron Paul on Leaving the Episcopal Church, and Whether to Legislate Abortion, Narcotics, & Same-Sex Marriage
The congressman who won the Values Voters Summit straw poll tells CT that he believes marriage is a sacrament but laws cannot change morality.
Interview by Sarah Pulliam Bailey in Washington, D.C. | posted 10/10/2011 10:09AM

Texas Rep. Ron Paul won a straw poll at the Family Research Council’s Values Voters Summit on October 8, receiving 37 percent of the vote at the social conservative convention. Family Research Council President Tony Perkins downplayed the results some, saying that 600 people registered Saturday morning left after Paul spoke. “I think people are still in the process of deciding where they want to go,” Perkins told reporters. Herman Cain took 23 percent and former Sen. Rick Santorum took 16 percent. Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann won 8 percent while former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney received 4 percent of the vote.

In his speech, Paul emphasized personal responsibility, using the example of Jesus’ response to prostitution. “He didn’t call for more laws. But he was very direct and thought that stoning was not the solution to the problem of prostitution,” he told the crowd. “So do laws take care of these things, or do we need a better understanding of our Christian values and our moral principles?” In an interview withChristianity Today following his speech, Paul explained why he doesn’t think the government can create morality.

as reported by LATimes here>>>

Then of course there was the Green Map online poll (Topix link) this weekend captured here:

And then there was the GretaWire Straw Poll:

Thanks to the help of Mannalis Barnes, we were able to sift through the plethora of comments there to find the little tidbits of truth about our favorite candidate, Ron Paul. You know the things the media could have reported about but failed to do so because they were so busy spinning the dialogue and projecting their own wishes until pretty boy Perry announces and convinces you to do the drugs he wants you to have that will put money in his crony capitalists friends pockets. Anyway, I digress. Here are some grassroots thoughts from the GretaWire comments or little gems we found among some of the rubbish there. You can go back through and see for yourself if you like because we definitely hand picked our favorites for you to share here:

Ron Paul is for freedom and liberty . He is not for a one world government controlled by military aggression or throwing money at a nation . He is for the federal government being run by the states not the federal government running the states . States can run themselves . The federal government will run what the constitution says it can and the rest of it is controlled by the individual states . He is for sound money not Federal reserve notes passed out by a private bank that then having nothing invested buy debt and collects the interest .

Mitch Covington
Ron Paul is for a STRONG national DEFENSE. He will NOT destroy the military, just make it more sensible. We don’t need 700 bases in 130 countries around the world. We don’t need to be in the mid-east quagmires. We simply cannot afford them. We can still have the strongest military in the world and defend ourselves quite well under Ron Paul.

Bill Myers
Destroy our military? Oh, not so at all! Our military doesn’t seem to agree with you given the fact that Ron Paul gets more campaign donations from military personnel than any other candidate in both the 2008 and 2012 campaigns. In fact, Ron Paul wants to strengthen national defense by bringing our troops back to secure our borders and coastline. Ron Paul just wants to dismantle the highly inefficient and corrupt military-industrial complex that has been pillaging this country since President Eisenhower started warning us over 50 years ago.

As all Ron Paul supporters like me will tell some one like you – do your homework on Ron Paul. His ideas seem revolutionary because we’ve gone far too long subject to socialist and neocon ideas.

Non-interventionist
People who will go along with an interventionist and imperialistic foreign policy will go along with anything. Who do you think this benefits except the weapons manufacturers and large corporations who privatize the country’s oil, water, and other natural resources, as in Iraq. As Paul explained in the debate (and he easily won even based solely on audience response), Iran is surrounded by countries with nuclear weapons (such as Israel, who has over 200 illegal nukes) and Pakistan and India (who helped get them from guess who), and China and Russia. Who do you think is a bigger threat, countries that are ambivalent toward the United States and have nukes or Iran, who the CIA says isn’t even close to developing them? What does Israel have to fear with 200+ nukes?

It seems that those who espouse the virtue of common sense have trouble convincing some Americans of this seeming paradox (in their minds). It turns out that the troops value defending our own country higher than the interventionist goals of the military-industrial complex and the ruling class. Staying out of Middle-Eastern countries will actually help us become much safer in the long term. What damage is done to our reputation cannot be undone, but at least we can help restore a little respect in the eyes of other countries if we just get the hell out!

Actually, his ideas are more mainstream than the media or more traditionally-voting (left-right) Americans. The biggest mistake in voting is to think that your vote will be wasted. That is true only if enogh people are convinced not to vote for the right candidate. We don’t have time to wait for Bachman or Perry or Palin to “come around” and figure out how things work. We need someone who understand the system and how to fix it. We have no more time. The issues threatening to destroy this country are not two or three years or Presidential terms from catching up with us, they are here! We need to deal with them today and begin the process of cleaning up the mess created by the old ruling class. Let’s vote someone in that will jail the bankers and jail the politicians that got us into this mess! Someone who will get us out of undeclared wars, wars that are not wars at all but are exercises in expanding our empire. The establishment commits treason on a daily basis, and you all know what the punishment for treason is right?

If we spent half as much time and money on keeping track of the money going out of the Treasury as we did invading and occupying other countries, not only would we have money left in the Treasury but the rest of the world might actually have some respect left for us. As it stands, we are bankrupt and our children are bankrupt. Now…what are we going to do about it! Elect Palin, who’s never written a speech much less a book? Perry, who sells out to globalists every chance he gets? To Bachmann, who puts her friendship with Israel above our own national security? Don’t set your minds on someone because your friends or family vote a certain way or because that candidate says that you are being patriotic for voting for them. It’s no longer about Republican or Democrat. Vote from your conscience and not from who you see on TV more. Our votes will not be wasted voting for Ron Paul unless we allow the media and others to convince us of this. If 2008 was an important election, this is exponentially more so. Do your research and vote for someone who will help stop the country from going the way of Zimbabwe! Vote for Ron Paul!!

Sparkplug

If he had his way our military would be incredibly strong because it wouldn’t wasted on fighting several futile wars all over the globe. How anyone could say that our military is strong now after 10 years of being stretched to the limit is a mystery.

Ron Paul does have a lot of supporters. Just because the mainstream media isnt pushing him down your throat like Perry, Bachmnn, and Romney……does not mean he does not have supporters. The people who support Ron Paul have an understanding of the constitution, ask questions, and do research instead of just listening to what is on tv. Ron Paul has been chosen by THE PEOPLE, not the media, not the banks, and not the corporations.

Andrew Lusty
Some of the more important quotes Ron Paul made

“You never have to give up liberties to be safe.”

We are into wars that are costing us trillions of dollars, those trillions should have been left in the economy to build jobs and produce prosperity here at home.”

“We were supposed to go into Iraq to get Al Qaeda, there was no Al Qaeda, we were supposed to go into Iraq to get WMDS, there were none.”

“You have to understand the mischief of the Federal Reserve.”(As crowds yelled END THE FED)

“We do not need to be bailing out the big banks and big corporations, dumping the debt on the America people, causing unemployment and causing the little guy to lose his house.”

“IT’S TIME WE RESTORE FREEDOM TO AMERICA.” ITS TIME TO BRING THE TROOPS HOME

How are we at the top of the totem pole if our military is spread all over the world? Why do we have to control everything to be powerful? If you look back in history, all great empires who tried to control more and more, finally collapsed. Is it fear that makes Americans think they have the right to tell other countries what they can and cannot do? or is it just an inflated ego? I love this country and I am blessed to be here. Our military should be here protecting our borders and helping our people.

Elliottwolf
Do you really think that the U.S. should have 700 military bases all over the world (and we’re building more) in order to control foreign governments on behalf of corporate interests, while outsourcing jobs, and allowing our own country to sink? That’s not a “strong military.” That is the death of Empire.

Charlie Munger
RONPAUL 2012. REVOLUTION NOW.
END THE FEDERAL RESERVE.
Reporters are so scared to lose those fiat currency backed checks that they feel the need to spew this disinformation bs.

Guess what “US News Staff”, those checks you eventually cash are becoming weaker and weaker in regards to buying power as each QE is launched and each bankster from the institutionalized mortgage fraud walk free. As you sit there drinking your fluoride laced neurotoxin public water supply.

According to the CIA World Factbook’s ranking of trade account balances, Israel’s economy is in the top 15% at $6,269,000,000 while the United States is at the very bottom of the list with an account balance of

$-561,000,000,000. Yet despite Israel’s obvious economic health compared to the United States, Congress continues to pour YOUR FAMILY money onto Israel.

Lavon Affair = 9/11 Look it up. Learn something
Name three groups who have benefitted monetarily in the last 12 years.

Bankers. War Mongerers. Israel.

Now put them all together and you have….? Traitors.

NO MORE FOREIGN ENTANGLEMENTS.
RON PAUL 2012.

String the banksters up. No more Prescot Bush Coup!

Jay
Actually Ron Paul supports a strong military. The only difference is he supports a strong national defense, whereas neo-Cons support a strong offense. He also actually served in the military unlike almost all the other candidates! He also received more military donations than all the other GOP candidates combined!

Yet he has so many young supporters! It has nothing to do with age. McCain was a joke. He supported amnesty, he voted for the bailouts, he got a C+ from the NRA, he got an F from Gun Owners of America, he supported abortion until deciding to run for President, etc. Conservatives didn’t want to vote for him, and the Bush Administration turned people off from the Republican Party.

Or people who actually research their candidates and look at things like voting records are voting for Ron Paul, while everybody else just listens to speeches and debates where the candidates just say talking points they know you want to hear to get elected. Notice how all the candidates on that stage at the Iowa debate had to defend their positions on past issues, while Ron Paul is consistently conservative so there is no need to defend himself? WAKE UP!

SovereignHominin

* He DOES NOT participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.

Shocker83
I LOVE how he mentioned that we should stop the longest blockaid in history that we have on Cuba and begin trading again. it was a pointless blockaid and was voted to be taken down numerous times by the UN but the US and Israel said no. Ron Paul has more love for our contitution and our country in his pinky than the rest of the other candidates do, and has support from more active military than all candidates combined and has mine as well. God Bless Dr Ron Paul wether he wins or not for standing up for me and u wether u realize he is or not. RP 2012.

Keltoi
See, this is where you are wrong and/or misinformed. RP is not FOR legalizing any of these things. He is personally against these things and has stated it publicly. His position is that its not the federal governments job to tell you what you can or cannot do with your life. When did forcing one groups position on everyone else become the American way? Please learn the difference between a Democracy and a Republic. The US was set up as a Republic by our Founding Fathers. Remember? “…and to the REPUBLIC for which it stands…”

James Lancelot
All of these polls are great news despite the actual straw poll results. We all keep hearing that Ron Paul may do well in straw polls but can’t win a national election. Yet he continues to win by huge margins on many national polls. If he will destroy our military, then why has he gotten more campaign contributions from men and women serving then any other candidate, including President Obama?

Joseph Bailey

Ron Paul has had more donations from active military than all other GOP candidates combined… Ask a soldier what they think. And if you don’t like his policy go buy a gun and go over there and handle it yourself… And do it why you can cause unless Paul gets into office that liberty will soon be in the trash, wrapped in the constitution, along with all the other liberties we’ve lost…

Last but hopefully not least is what I said (sorry if we missed your comment on the thread)  maybe you could comment again on this post for us if we did!

Sandra Crosnoe

Two man [race] maybe — Paul vs Perry — age old battle of real conservative via Ron Paul vs Bush ‘conservative’ and former Gore supporter Rick Perry. But Michele Bachmann should not be discounted or discouraged. She is to be commended for standing up for the moral values that Ron Paul’s life and record reflect. It is good to have her waking up on fiscal issues and beginning to understand that we cannot spend as much as we have been for years on policing the world. Because we are broke yes; but also because it is bad policy. Freedom with personal responsibility and strong moral values is indeed the winning combination and Ron Paul is indeed the correct answer. From a Republican working to restore the Republic (a republican precinct chair and various party offices/committees over the years).

and just one last quote from Jesse Benton via yahoo

“These straw poll results, our growing poll numbers and our strong fundraising show that our message is resonating with Iowans and Americans everywhere,” campaign chairman Jesse Benton said. “Our message was the same in 2007 as it is now in 2011, but this time we have quadrupled our support. That means our message is spreading, our support is surging and people are taking notice.”

Grassroots Republicans Welcome Victories!

…But Urge Continued Action Following Elections

Tuesday began with many people wondering whether it would be a “good night” and exactly how the elections would turn out. The results were generally as expected, with Republicans winning back the U.S. House of Representatives and sweeping the state offices in Oklahoma.

The 2009 Tea Party movement occurred well before the primary season, vocalizing the general sentiment to “throw the bums out”. The initial battle cry was to start over with a new crop of elected officials. However, this election resulted in an expulsion of many Democrat incumbents while a majority of Republican incumbents retained their seats or moved onto higher office. In Oklahoma, for example, Tea Party groups decried stimulus packages and bailout votes, yet TARP supporter Rep. Mary Fallin won the Oklahoma Governor’s race by a wide margin on Tuesday.

Republicans have been presented with a double-edged sword of opportunity with Tuesday’s victories. Republican officials have been presented with a historic mandate to reverse policies and return to basic Constitutional principles. The Republican grassroots have shown their ability to get out the vote, make their voices heard, and effect a sea-change in government.

Although Tuesday may seem at first glance to have been a major victory, the potential exists for voters to sit back trusting the new Republican majority to take up the fight in defense of the Constitution.

“The nation is at a tipping point,” R3publicans’ board member Porter Davis explained. The fact that so many incumbent Republicans were returned to office presents the real possibility that they will not make good on their campaign promises, that their votes will be similar to their records when they were in power during President Bush’s term.

“R3publicans urges all Oklahomans interested in a limited, Constitutional government to maintain vigilance over their elected officials and prepare to hold their feet to the fire once they take office in January,” noted R3publican co-founder Sandra Crosnoe.

About R3publicans:  R3publicans is a grassroots network of activists working together to restore the Republic.  The group is based in Oklahoma and networked around the country.  The group’s focus is limited government, Constitutional principles and free market ideas. R3publican’s most recent project in Oklahoma was working with the organization, OK-SAFE,  to distribute their election summary guide “Positions On Oklahoma State Questions”.

The Clarity of NO and the Power of Abstaining

Election 2010 is upon us and I want to talk to you about a matter that has been weighing on my heart for a while. For many years I have been involved in civic action, Republican party politics, conservative issues, and legislative grassroots activism.  So I come to you with a bit of experience in the fray.  Although I have invested much time and expended much energy over the years, what I am most pleased about is the circle of friends that I have who make a difference wherever they go and whatever they set their hands to doing.  They are awesome and serve as salt and light wherever they go.  The political process can be vicious and wicked and de-energizing, but if you are surrounded by people of principle who serve the Lord above man, then you find that what matters first and foremost is pleasing Him.  You also find that you are not alone and understand that it is not so much about winning, but about how you run the race.

Observing the political process might convince you to believe that we live in a left-right paradigm battle. I have learned over the years that such a notion is a distraction from what is really important, so much of the time and much of my life has been spent working on conservative matters and Christian values which I am not walking away from because they reside at the core of my being.  It is important to note that our Father God is the one who made us and created us and gave us a free will.  He calls us to come to Him and receive salvation and redemption from sin via His son’s death on the cross in our behalf.  He does not compel us to do so, but He does explain the consequences of not doing so clearly.  The consequences of failing to repent and turn are not good but altogether understandable in that righteousness cannot tolerate sin and still retain it’s own character.

So, if you feel that the political process is especially wicked and vicious, then welcome to the battle.  Did you really expect power to lay down and give up without a fight?  Did you really expect the enemy to say, “ahhh you were right and I was wrong – here are the reigns of power for you to constrain me from stealing from you and yours?”  Here are a couple of diagrams for you to ponder:

If you believe that reality is more like the latter, then you will want to consider the possible wisdom of protecting the constitutional rights of all the people all the time.  Which brings me to the real point of this piece – the power of abstaining and the importance of saying NO.

If you have not been given a legislative matter that is in complete agreement with the constitution – then just say NO.

If there isn’t a candidate on your ballot who you know to be a person who will bind themselves to the chains of the constitution, then abstain from voting for the ‘lesser of two evils’ and work hard to get some better choices next time.

I have a personal policy of not supporting people who vote for bailouts and stimulus spending and/or support abortion. Needless to say, the list of people I will vote for is shorter than most people’s list. I do not feel compelled to mark every slot. I vote for people of principle as best I can ascertain in any given cycle.

You will hear a lot about the lesser of two evils this cycle and you will have to ascertain how far you can go down that slippery slope until you get into the morass of actually being complicit with evil.  I find that all the joy goes out of the election process for me when I am coerced and encouraged to vote for people who I know have defrauded me.  Therefore I choose to vote for and work for people of principle in the primary.  If we get to the general election and there is noone of principle in the race who conforms to my personal standards of ethics and decency – I simply skip the slot and move on.  I encourage you to do the same.  You will feel a lot better about your vote and the political process.  You will understand how important it is to be engaged and involved along the way.  You may even find that you understand some of our legislators a little better and pray for them as they make difficult decisions along the way.  I hope so because the heart of the king is the Lord’s hands!

The king’s heart [is] in the hand of the LORD, [as] the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.  Proverbs 21:1

We must learn to let our yes be yes and our no be no.

But above all things, my brothers, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yes be yes; and your no, no.  James 5: 12

We must abstain from evil and not permit certain practices in our homes and in our communities.  We must understand the power of abstaining from evil in a society where it is rampant and often even called ‘good’.  We must be salt and light and occupy until He returns.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?    Matthew 5:13

Go vote even if you run a blank ballot through with a prayer – but this cycle there are several state questions deserving of a clear NO and a few candidates worthy of support in my opinion.  I will be posting on the state questions here soon.  I might even endorse a candidate or two, so stay tuned!

Blessings

Sandie

Tribute to Ron Paul from The Atlantic oft called the Brain of the TeaParty

It does not seem at all far-fetched to think that Paul could have a much greater impact on the race than last time. The Republican primaries are sure to be about economic and size-of-government issues. The subject that hurt him last time, foreign policy, will probably take a backseat. Paul will not lack for resources, thanks to his legion of online donors. Reagan, the Republican hero, once endorsed him. And the party’s energy right now is at the grass roots, which also bodes well for him. If his economic message connects in Iowa and New Hampshire—well, who can say?

Meanwhile, the country is losing faith in its economic leaders. “I feel really good about what’s happening,” he told me. “I never dreamed of a day when so many people would be thinking about the Federal Reserve. I can draw crowds of thousands! The first time I mentioned Austrian economics when I spoke at the University of Michigan, they started to applaud. I thought, What in thunder is happening? What’s happening is, the education is occurring.”

Paul looked rapturous, and he leaned forward. “Two years ago,” he said, “if you’d had somebody come in and do what you should do on the recession, they’d probably be impeached in a week. But attitudes are changing—people are understanding economics differently.”
